A Little Bit of Magic by the Reluctant Monkey. Fairy Tale. Rated G. WC: 2481. On Halloween night, Bobby and Dan discover a hidden glade with a wondrous "seecrud" deep in the Wheeler Game Preserve. You follow the trail for what you estimate is a good half mile. A glance at your phone causes you a small pang of alarm. Your battery is at less than thirty percent. How much longer will it last? Ahead, you see a break in the trees. As you step out into the open, you glance up at the night sky and see the full moon now partially hidden by swift moving clouds. Ahead there is a small, raised structure. Even in the faint light, you can see it is a charming little treehouse, no doubt a favorite hideaway for some lucky, local child. |
You wonder if you have perhaps left the preserve and wandered onto property belonging to another Sleepyside family. In any case, it's clear this treehouse isn't old enough to be something your grandfather would have come across, and you find it unlikely he would have chosen a child's playhouse as a hiding place regardless. With one last look around, you turn back. You'll have to find your way to the original trail.
