Monkey's Nostalgia Writing Challenge 2024
Remember when... Neon lights. Bubble-gum pop. The Brat Pack. Rubik's Cube. The Princess Bride. MTV. Pac-Man. Poltergeist. The future was so bright, everyone had to wear shades. The last official Trixie Belden book was published in 1986. Hop back in time to the decade that brought us Pretty in Pink and Purple Rain and spin us a mysterious tale. |
This writing challenge is open to anyone who wants to write a Trixie Belden fanfic with the following criteria:
- Your story must take place sometime between 1980 - 1989.
- Pick a popular song from the 80s as Trixie's favorite and have someone deliberately "mis-hear" the lyrics to her amusement or annoyance.
- Change something (or several things) up from canon in a big way. Maybe the Beldens adopted Jim or Mart and Dan are the lead detectives who want to start their own agency someday.
- Your story can primarily be a romance, general fic, or any other genre, but it should include some kind of mystery or mysterious happening.
- Your story can be scary (Scary Tales) or not (Fairy Tales) - it's up to you!
Stories may be any length and may be part of an ongoing universe, but please include enough information that they can be read as "stand-alones" for anyone not already familiar with your universe(s).
This challenge is not timed and any writer who would like to participate will have a link posted on this page. Please use a rating system equivalent to the MPAA's for your story, submit a brief description, and include an indication of "fairy tale" or "scary tale" along with your link.
