Go for a virtual walk (or run) through BWG territory! How it works:
You can walk, run, use a treadmill - whatever you want to get in your 3.4 miles. You do not have to complete your race in a certain timeframe, nor do you have to complete it all at once. You can take a stroll around your neighborhood or jog in place in your den.
At any point in your race, you can use the map to "see" where you are. Click on "More options" and it will open a full map that will allow you to do a "street view."
You can track your distance using a fitness watch, pedometer, or phone app, like Google Fit. Alternately, you could use Google Maps to map out a walk/run in your own location of equal distance, letting you know just how far/where to go to complete your 3.4 miles. Or, based on the Google estimate, walk or run for the amount of time displayed on the map.
Starting Point: Ossining High School (aka Sleepyside Jr/Sr High)
Finishing Line: Wolf Hollow, home to Julie Campbell and inspiration for Crabapple Farm
Because the books described Sleepyside as "2 miles away" from the Belden homestead, I always assumed that was about the distance from Crabapple Farm to school. It's interesting to me to discover it's actually 3.4 miles. That makes a bit more sense when you consider the number of references to how the (pre-car) BWGs couldn't easily participate in after school clubs/activities because they needed to catch the bus home.
Have fun! The idea is to combine a virtual visit to Trixie's corner of the world with getting up and moving for your health. Do you want to make this even more BWGish? Consider making a donation to Jixemitri during their next fundraiser, as a charity fun run. :)
When you've completed the challenge, feel free to grab the web badge
And for your addedamusement, here's the official map of Sleepyside compared to the map I drew as a kid, long before I even knew there was an official map. I was just a wee bit off. Just a bit. Yep, I also made lots of stuff up for it. It all made sense to me at the time...
