The original A Simple Kind of Fear inspiration was a combination of the weird music of Lee Blaske* and the television show Twin Peaks. There are various references to the show throughout ASKOF, such as the name of the ME and Ghostwood. That said, I find it funny that a show that was cancelled and left the viewers hanging with many unfinished plot lines is now coming back so many years later. Since I did the same thing, there's yet another "tribute" to add to the list. Heh.
[SIDE BAR: Dear Golly, did I love the Psych Twin Peaks send-up. That was awesome. I keep thinking I want to do the same thing with an ASKOF episode.]
*Many years ago, I went looking for some music to play during a Halloween party. I stopped in at a Sam Goody's in our local mall and found - in a clearance bin - a cassette (cassette! hee!) called The Immortal Kiss of the Vampire. I had no idea what it was, but I figured for a couple of dollars, I'd buy it and see if it was something that could be played at my party.
Yes. It works well for a Halloween party (though the short narration bits are a little jarring as a break in the music, if you are using it for "background" and not active listening). I put one song from the album on the notes page and another is included in the Music, Volume 1 soundtrack. The second song - Ancient Heart - was the one that had the creepy vibe I wanted for ASKOF. (Which, to ramble off on another tangent, is kinda funny, considering I never actually pulled off "creepy" in any of the episodes.)
ETA [SECOND SIDE BAR: I know I've been known for my love of Doctor Who (from way back before the series restart... JellyBaby!) and I've probably mentioned I loved Stargate SG-1 - and to a lesser extent Atlantis and to no extent at all the every-character-was-a-big-bucket-of-unsympathetic-suck Universe - but I've been recently re-watching all my Psych DVDs and have come to realize that without even consciously recognizing it, this show may have moved up to my all-time fave slot. I adore Shawn and Gus so much. It makes me want to write a series of stories with Trixie and Honey in those roles!]
